I've never found a place that I like better than Bantayan Island.
Bantayan Island is just off the northern cost of Cebu. Cebu is in the central region of the Philippines.
Of course the waters are crystal clear and the beaches consist of powdery white sand, that is not uncommon in the Philippines. Though some beaches are rocky and hard to navigate. There are many like that around Bogo City. Bogo is where I live. It too is located in Northern Cebu but is on the mainland. It is about an hour away from Bantayan Island.
The picture was taken on Bantayan Island. It is one of the Bantayan Island Beach Resorts known as Tickety Boo. I stayed there once. I'm not sure if that building is still standing.
One of the local lawyers, who is also an active environmentalist, took exception to structures that were too close tot he shoreline. He seems very sincere in his work and has done much good for Bantayan Island. Especially in fighting dynamite fishing. Dynamite fishing destroys coral reef.
A lawsuit was filed and the Philippine Department of Energy and Natural Resources was ordered to destroy several buildings and seawalls on the island. As far as I know, all where the property of Bantayan Island Beach Resorts.
I think the building in the picture did get torn down but I'm not sure of that. I did email the owner and he mentioned that he was rebuilding the restaurant.
I haven't been able to get back to Bantayan Island in over a year and I really miss the place. I need to make a trip to Tacloban, once I accomplish that, Bantayan is on my next target. I'll likely stay at Tristan's Beach Resort but there are other contenders. Such as St. Bearnard's Beach Resort or perhaps a return to Tickety Boo Beach Resort. I'd like to try a new place though and I've not stayed at St. Bearnard's before.
It would help my travel plans out a lot of the dollar would regain some of the value it has lost over the last couple of years!
There are many to choose from. I hope to eventually stay at all of the Bantayan Island Beach Resorts.
